After what seems like forever, my first Chaos Space Marine Lord is finished.

This now gives me a vaguely balanced Chaos force and I hope to give them a proper field test later in July, hopefully with a couple of further additions should I be able to pull my finger out 🙂

Digital vs Analogue

Sixeleven’s right on the money here. Plus, there’s something just special about a physical library of books. We should cherish them.

SILO41

I love technology. I love the pace at which technology is developing. I love all the weird and bizarre gizmos and apps that are becoming available by the week. I’m certain I can find some kind of techno-wizardry that would help in every aspect of my life if I looked hard enough. Yet, for one of my favourite hobbies, I find myself shunning the digital way and yearning for the good old fashioned bookin my hands with which I can flick through faster than you can say ‘I’m sure I saw that rule around here somewhere’.

It would be easy to say that this is because of all of the most obvious failings of a digital product; making sure your tablet/phone is charged up, harder to flick through, the expense of a tablet, the lack of a physical product to hold and feel etc. but I don’t think…

Space Marine Apocalypse Leaks

06/24/2013 Leave a comment

Interesting, not quite sold on them but I’m expecting to see some funky conversions in the near future.

SILO41

Well we all knew it was going to happen. An imminent release means leaked photos. Interestingly rather than some of the big stuff trickling out the door it’s the revamped company masters.

If I’m honest, I’m not sold. They’re too blatant. There’s no subtlety to these models what so ever and no thought given to the fact that they are company commanders first and foremost, and if they’re in battle they wouldn’t carrying around lots of bits of paper or a big voxcaster. But you never know, there may be (even more) special rules to back it up. That said the Lord Executioner is pretty cool.

First Apocalypse Trailer Lands

06/22/2013 Leave a comment

Must be a week to pay day as GW’s released the first of the trailers for the forthcoming Apocalypse reboot:

Is it just me or is it a wee bit more obtuse than their usual pre-announcement trailers?  It’s not bad, it just doesn’t fill me with excitement or the urgent need to rush out and find as much information about the new release as possible.

That said, and I’m probably vastly over-thinking this, but didn’t the imagery of the trailer hint at the possibility that this release will also incorporate a new set of rules for Planetary Empires?  It’s probably just me.

More GW vs Chapter House News

Interesting times. Let’s hope the chaps in the corner offices in Nottingham actually take heed.

SILO41

The firm that represented Chapter House in their legal fight against Games Workshop has released the below statement. Aside from the implications regarding IP and Trademarks for the industry as a whole it does throw Games Workshop into a fairly damning light. Not that I imagine they care. It’ll be interesting to see if this makes them more aggressive or opens their eyes to a community eager to return to the old days of summer campaigns and community support.

Thanks to Lexicanum for sharing the below:

Chapterhouse Attorneys:
“Winston & Strawn Defeats Hundreds of Trademark and Copyright Infringement Claims on Behalf of Pro Bono Client”

“In a classic David-versus-Goliath battle, Winston & Strawn LLP represented Chapterhouse Studios LLC on a pro bono basis in a cutting-edge federal trademark and copyright dispute in the Northern District of Illinois (Games Workshop Limited v. Chapterhouse Studios LLC 1:10-cv-8103). The verdict of this jury…

Terminator Lord – WIP

06/17/2013 Leave a comment

Sometimes, all too rarely, my self-control wins out.  This means that rather than embarking upon a new project as I alluded to yesterday I have instead been all sensible and elected to attempt to finish my long-gestating Terminator Lord as I realised that I only have a single HQ unit ready for combat and I don’t think that Khârn is that appropriate a choice to lead my army of misunderstood Astartes.

Anyway, here’s the story so far:

Terminator Lord WIP

Initially I’d hoped to have this chap finished today but since he’s likely going to become my first choice army commander for the foreseeable I’m going to lavish some extra TLC on him. With a bit of luck I’ll have him finished before the end of this week (how often have I said that?) since I’d really like to get started on either my Helldrake or Forgefiend.

Now this is a bloody good idea. Not sure how I’ll be able to get a further 1,000 of anything done between now and the 29th but I’ll try my best!

Of Orks, and Ogres

Ok so I was at my local GW store over the week-end looking for a game or three.  I noticed they where having a painting challenge.  The idea is to have 1000 points of unfinished models painted and based by the end of the month.  You declared your intent by writing your oath on a purity seal which the staff then stuck on the door. No prizes just a bit of motivational fun.

So I put my name down and declared I will have 1000 points of Dark Angles (Guardians of the covenant) painted and based by June 29.

SO I BETTER GET CRACKING!

More in this later.

I’m fairly happy with this and I think I’ve managed to keep it consistent with the Rhino I finished a couple of months back.  Next up I’m going to try to finish my Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour then move on to either some cultists or return to my much-neglected Bretonians for a change of pace.

Eternal Crusade: 40K MMORPG announced!

Sometimes you just can’t keep a good idea down.  Inevitably the task of creating the first 40K MMORPG (Massively Multi-player Online RolePlaying Game  for the uninitiated) has fallen to yet another studio, this time the brave digital crusader is Behaviour Interactive which describes itself as ‘Canada’s largest independent game developer’.  I say good luck to them.

Oh, you want details?  Ok then, here’s their press release in all its glory:

———————-

Behaviour Interactive and Games Workshop® proudly announce a new online game in the Warhammer® 40,000® universe: Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade. Behaviour Interactive has obtained the rights to create a wholly new MMORPG persistent war experience for PC, PS4 and Xbox One set in Games Workshop’s universe of the 41st Millennium. In the game, players choose a Warhammer 40,000 race and fight directly as one of their warriors in massive conflicts for territory. It will be up to each faction’s community to determine their own destiny as they vie for control of an entire planet.

“I am thrilled to announce what will finally be the first MMORPG based on the Warhammer 40,000 license,” said Miguel Caron, Head of Studio, Online at Behaviour Interactive. “Eternal Crusade’s team are all MMO development veterans and with the support of Behaviour’s 20+ years of experience this is going to be the online Warhammer 40,000 universe game that fans have been dreaming of for years!”

“Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is the second milestone in Behaviours new online strategic positioning after last year’s Star Citizen Announcement.” said Rémi Racine, President and Executive Producer of Behaviour. “We are very happy with the progress of the online studio and you should expect more similar announcements to come.”

“The depth, breadth and sheer level of detail that the Warhammer 40,000 universe has after 26 years of continuous development makes it one of the great fantasy settings of our times.” said Jon Gillard, Head of Licensing at Games Workshop. “Experiencing the thrill of first hand combat in this world of eternal conflict, with thousands of other players beside you, will be fantastic.”

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One and will release in late 2015.

Main features of the game include:

Experience the gameworld with 3rd-person, behind the shoulder action featuring precision gunplay and brutal melee combat with excruciating finishers;

Participate in a persistent online war to conquer the planet, its fate completely in the hands of the players;

Become a warrior from one of four initial factions, each unique and opposed to one another: Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks and Eldar.

Participate in truly massive conflicts that simultaneously bring thousands of players to bear over territories and other strategic resources.

Get behind the controls of Space Marine Rhinos, Predators, Ork Battlewagons and other iconic vehicles of the 41st millennium;

Hack through genuinely challenging procedural content alongside your battle-brothers and never have the same experience twice;

Earn the right to customize your builds in a deep progression system drawing on the rich Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Found a Battle Squad with friends and prepare for conflict from your customized shared space in orbit – then drop down to the planet together and seek out glory.

———————-

Despite my general reservations surrounding MMORPGs which I completely acknowledge is mainly down to my advancing years, hermit-like tendencies and general grumpiness, if anything’s going to get my to play one of these things it’s this one.  That said it is early days as the release isn’t scheduled until the end of 2015 so only the God-Emperor knows what this’ll eventually look and play like.

For more information in the meantime, you can head over to the game’s official website here.

Pimp My Jaffa Cake!

06/11/2013 Leave a comment

This is a blog of a friend of mine who’s partner is Tim who’s contributed a couple of times to my Trenchmates series.

Why repost this you ask? Well, aside from showing you good folk a truly excellent blog, I’m also firmly of the opinion that wargaming really benefits from great snacks and this blog has some of the best.

Plus, who doesn’t love huge Jaffa Cakes?

Look what I made at the weekend! A bloody enormous jaffa cake with other jaffa cakes in it! With booze in it! I feel like Dr Frankenstein – except with vast quantities of sugar! (Can anyone spot the sugar-high?)
