January 2014 GW Releases

Pins of War (certainly among others) have published what appears to be GW’s January release schedule. You can read their article here however if like me you’re feeling a bit lazy you can simply look below.

Got to say that I’m glad that the hungriest creatures this side of me at an all-you-can-eat buffet are finally getting some love as their last codex was an absolute travesty. I still have fond memories of Tyranid Attack / Advanced Space Crusade so I have a soft spot for these critters.

As it’s rumoured that the new Imperial Guard codex is due in March (Imperial Guard March, geddit?) I really hope that this paves the way for the return of the Genestealler Cults in the form of a codex supplement that combines the two armies. I live in hope!

2013 In Review (Part 1)

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 17,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Really need to make one of these myself…

Tales of a wargaming butterfly

So as we close 2013, and open a new year, I think it is time to set some goals and make the #warmonger pledge to stick with them. I am hoping to keep these as relatively achievable as I possibly can, a few are hobby related and a few are personal related.

So time to cut the BS and get these goals down.

  • To maintain the momentum of Infinity the Game and help build the community local to me.
  • To paint all of my demo and gaming stuff for Infinity the Game.
  • To get my Kings of War stuff built and painted.
  • To stick with the game systems I am currently playing/planning. (Infinity, Kings of War and Malifaux)
  • To get to the Spring Challenge for Infinity the Game, details can be found here.
  • To host some tournaments near me and with the help of others make the UK a…

This Warmonger’s Christmas (including my Warmonger Secret Santa!)

12/30/2013 2 comments

Given that my wife and I have just bought a house (we moved in on Christmas Eve!), our mutual gift giving was a somewhat modest affair.  That said, my beloved did surprise me and as well as getting me the BluRay box set of Dollhouse (mmm, Eliza Dushku… focus, John!),  she also surprised me with a box of Dark Eldar Wyches.  I’ve been really needing to add more of these crazy elfs to my army so as soon as my Hobby Room is complete I’ll get these churned out.

However first I’ll finish part of my lovely Warmonger Secret Santa gift.  I received a set of snap-fit Warriors of Chaos, a clutch of Doctor Who cards and a copy of Legends of The Space Marines.  The Doctor Who cards were last seen being spirited away by my wife no doubt for some nefarious reason and as I already have a copy of the book I gave it to Tim (he of the Reavers Redemptor posts) as he was one of those who kindly helped us move last week.

As for the three Warriors of Chaos, you have no idea how hard it was not to buy the Army book and start a force as the whole range is lovely.  However in a rare moment of strength I resisted and am halfway through painting them as Warriors of Khorne.  I really wanted to get them done before the move but time ran out, hopefully they’ll be done over the next week or so.

Mission Almost Complete (AKA Hobby Room Part 1)

While everyone else was taking a break over the holidays, my wife and I have moved house. As such, things have been really quiet on the hobby front however one of the best things about our new home is that now have MY OWN HOBBY ROOM!!!!

It’s nowhere near complete but here are some recent pics.

Although it’s not that apparent, the room will be able to easily fit a standard sized 6’x4′ gaming table and I suspect there’s room to expand this to a modest Apocalypse sized table.

With a bit of luck I’ll be able to get everything sorted out over the next week, although I think I may need to replace my assistant…

The Primogenitor Returns

Now that my glue and Green Stuff supplies are replenished, I’ve been able to spend a bit of time this afternoon assembling my Finecast Fabius Bile.

I was very impressed how easily this went together. Pruning all the flash took a little under an hour and only a couple of parts (The Rod of Torment and the vials on top of The Chirurgeon) needed straightening with my wife’s hair dryer. Everything fit together perfectly without any joins needing Green Stuff and it was fully assembled in a little over twenty minutes.

This model has definitely been improved by the recasting in Finecast. The detail’s crisp, there are no air bubbles, and nothing needed pinning.

Can’t wait to start painting it 🙂

I’m a weak, weak man…

I swore I wouldn’t, but the Black Library’s Digital Advent Calendar has sucked me in! Hopefully I’ll not buy too much more…

The Best Laid Plans…

As the day of The Move trundles ever closer with all the inevitability of a Baneblade, I’m getting less and less time to devote to anything remotely hobby-related.

This afternoon, after a mammoth trip to the local recycling centre, I decided to reward myself by building and painting a miniature I’ve been looking forward to for ages, my Finecast Fabius Bile. However, due to a staggering example of my ineptitude, this was all I managed to get done.

Y’see, while I ensured I had a nice sharp blade and sufficient Green Stuff just in case, I completely failed to check to see if I had any super glue left! By the time I realised my error, all the hobby shops and DIY centres were closed so I decided to see if I could make any headway with my Berserker Rhino.

If you compare it to my last post you most likely won’t see much difference, however I spent a good ninety minutes tidying it up and adding a bit more detail to the skulls, gunner and Dirge Caster. I’m also going to experiment with the Blood for The Blood God technical paint that I recently purchased once it’s nearer completion.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I’d better get on and pack a couple more boxes before I turn in.

Getting Technical

This morning a parcel of hobby goodness arrived at my desk.

I’m really looking forward to trying these out. If I’m able, I’ll post a brief review this weekend.

What I have planned for December

12/02/2013 Leave a comment

Please note, this is called what I have planned for December, what I actually end up doing is another matter entirely.

Right, now with that excuse proviso out of the way let’s get started.  Obviously there are important Real Life matters that annoyingly get in the way like moving house and the whole festive merry-go-round but I’m leaving those off this list and concentrating on the really important stuff.  So, in no particular order I aim to:

  • Complete painting my Imperial Bastion
  • Complete the last three mutated Chaos Space Marines
  • Complete the Khorne Berserker Rhino
  • Experiment with some knightly liveries for my Bretonnians
  • Finally finish building my Dark Eldar Ravager and Razorwing and get them basecoated
  • Paint a couple of Dark Angels to see how they look

See, not extensive and if I can get through a third of that I’ll be really happy.
