Remembering Dad

Douglas George Ferguson (28th July 1945 – 20th September 2014)

 

As any occasional readers of my blog will note, I’ve been somewhat quiet of late.  As I previously mentioned, my father had been seriously ill with cancer, unfortunately he died last Saturday.  Understandably, this has meant that most of my time has been spent on family matters.

While we knew for quite a long time that Dad wasn’t going to make it, death still comes as a shock so I don’t know when I’ll be able to resume my semi-regular mutterings as, to be honest, I don’t really have my energy for the hobby at the moment.

Nevertheless, I want to do something to mark not just Dad’s passing, but his life.  Therefore I’ve set up a Just Giving Page to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, you can visit it here.  It would mean a lot to me if you’d consider donating to this cause, it doesn’t have to be much, I know how tight things are for most people (myself included) at the moment, so even a couple of pounds will make a difference.

The reason I chose Cancer Research UK is because their research I’m sure allowed Dad at least an extra couple of years of good life, however towards the end I was bowled over by the work of the palliative care nurses provided by Macmillan Cancer Support.  Very recently, my friend Dave lost his Mum to cancer, he decided to raise money for Macmillan in the most wonderful way via his Wargamers Against All Cancers (WAAC) campaign which has already raised many thousands for Macmillan.  You can read about this on his website (which I’m sure you all know) here and donate to WAAC here.

Both these charities do amazing work, please don’t feel you have to donate to both, but a small gift to either will be much appreciated.

I’m not sure when I’ll get the chance to blog again, hopefully soon but certainly not in September.  Anyway until then, thanks for reading.

Chaos Space Marine Heldrake – WIP 4

Now that I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things I’ve been able to progress my Heldrake some more.

It’s now almost done, it still needs some tidying up, shading and (obviously) full assembly but I’m fairly confident I can get this done by the end of the week.

Mixed Gender Militarum Tempestus Scions

Look, I’m not dead!  It’s been exactly a month since my last post, the longest delay ever in the ignominious history of this pokey little blog.  There are a number of reasons, the most pressing of which is that my father is nearing the end of his valiant battle with cancer so understandably my mind has been, and will continue to be elsewhere for a while longer.

That said, I think it’s important for my sanity to attempt to keep as much of my normal life going as possible so I decided to get back on the horse and hammer out a few hundred words of rubbish.

This past week I’ve been slowly progressing my Heldrake, it’s almost finished and will be the subject of a proper post later.  As such my mind turned to my next project, I received three boxes of Militarum Tempestus Scions for my birthday back in June and I’m tired of them languishing on their sprues under my desk.  I had the notion of attempting to build a mixed-gender platoon so scoured the interweb for some 28mm female heads in berets and discovered these heads made by Statuesque Miniatures.

I ordered a couple of sets and within four days they arrived.  The quality of the sculpts are fantastic, I’m usually not a fan of small metal components after shedding blood, sweat and tears trying to get the old Imperial Guard heads to fit onto my plastic Cadian torsos however the sheer quality of these sculpts certainly encourages a little extra hard work.

However, as you can see from the photo below, the projects stumbled before it could get started.

 

They’re unfortunately ever so slightly too small when compared to the male heads so for now I’ll have to look elsewhere for compatible components.

All is not lost though as I’ve earmarked these heads for use with my PanOceana faction for Infinity as they’ll add some extra variety to my Fusiliers.

Will I order from Statuesque again?  Almost certainly, the quality of their product is fantastic and, time and finances permitting, I’d love to collect some of the Resistance Fighter range.  The prices are very reasonable and delivery is very quick, while their range is limited at this time, I can’t wait to see what else they can come up with.  Definitely a company to watch.
