2014 in review

The WordPress.com servitors prepared a 2014 annual report for my little blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 37,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 14 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

And yes, I know I have to finish my Warpsmith, shut up!

My lovely and far too understanding wife surprised me with a GW gift voucher so I was obliged to get something fancy. Plus, it’s time my Heralds of Desolation got their Chapter Master 🙂

So much metal!

I think this is going to take far longer than anticipated but I hope the results will be worth it.

Well, that was a bit of a toughy!

After a good hour of dryfitting, blu-tac fitting and finally hope-the-hell-this-works super glue fitting I finally have the main body of the Warpsmith finished.#

The backpack top needed a tiny bit of Green Stuff to fill an unsightly gap, but otherwise it worked quite well.

As you can see, the bottom of the dude’s axe still needs more straightening but I think a couple more blasts of the hairdryer should do it.  I’ve also left the base off as well as the four Mechatendrils which will be painted separately else I’d go crazy.

Well, that wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d feared. It took me a little under an hour to turn this:

To this:

I think I’ll need to straighten the axe some more, but that’s enough for today. What really impressed me though is that the only air bubble was on the sole of the left foot, and that’ll be covered by the base.

Not really looking forward to building this but I can’t wait to get started on the painting stage.

Hot on the heals of their Sergeant, here’s the full squad.

And, as requested, a clearer(ish) look at the Sergeant’s power sword.

Oh, boy!

As the ink dries on my soon-to-be-completed Dark Angels Assault Marines, I’ve finally settled on my next project, this!

I bought the Warpsmith from the Glasgow Games Workshop in early 2013 while I was through attending a training course for work and the box has been sitting on the shelf, mocking me. If you can filter out the insane amounts of flash, you’ll see that there are only twelve pieces.

How hard can this be?

Dark Angels Assault Squad – WIP 2

After buying nearly all the Christmas presents this afternoon (still have no idea what I’m getting the wife…) I cracked on with my Assault Squad.

All that’s left are the weapons, company marking and small details such as skulls and purity seals. Should have them done tomorrow.

Damn, I’ve actually been somewhat productive. Before moving onto the other squad members, I decided to paint the Sergeant.

I usually do this so that I have a current reference for the squad in question. Plus it helps keep me motivated to know that, on occasion, I am actually capable of finishing things!

This is also the first time I’ve used one of the Citadel Dry Paints, I used Skink Blue to help the power sword stand out. I must say that I’m quite happy with it.

Ages ago (well September last year), I started these models, but I put them on ice for so many reasons. Now though, I’ve dusted (not literally, they were in a Tupperware box) them off and hope to have them ready soon.

This evening, I spent just under an hour working on the squad’s sergeant.

My beloved wife has asked to have a game with me over the holidays so I’d like to get these done sooner rather than later. I am however aware how often I say this…
