Dark Angels Incoming – What I’ve learned from the trailer

06/15/2015 Leave a comment

I’m really excited about the forthcoming Dark Angels codex.  Ever since I promoted my Unforgiven from allied faction to full army status I’ve been looking forward to seeing what, if any, of the developments that accompanied the more recent vanilla ‘dexes would transfer across, not to mention the prospect of army-specific Tactical Objective Cards, detachments and the like.

That said, I’m trying to get myself out of the habit of relying too much on the plethora of rumours circulating online, despite what reposting such things can do for this little site’s viewing numbers 😉  Therefore at this point I’m only going in to what can be ascertained from the trailer that dropped this morning, you can view it below.

Still with me?  Here we go.

The Good

While there are pictures on the GW website of the new Grav-equipped Devastator Squad and Terminator Librarian in Dark Angel colours, it’s still nice to see them with the rest of their comrades.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the third from the left has a Grav Canon and Amp.

Also, I’m pretty sure that the third from the left has a Grav Canon and Amp.

Also, it’s heartening to know that they’ve not entirely done away with the far superior old Dark Angels upgrade sprue as it appears you’ll still be able to pick up the Veteran Squad.

Dark Angels Trailer - Old Base Size

I managed to pick up two of the upgrade sprues last month however my plan is to put the models onto the new 30mm bases.

The Bad

Seriously, why have these models not been updated?

Dark Angels Trailer - Old Azrael

I like a classic Citadel Miniature as much as the new chap, but surely it’s time to retire these venerable casts in favour of more dynamic and less Finecasty versions?

For the God-Emperor’s sake, Azrael and company are nineteen years old!

Dark Angels - Angels of Death Codex

Codex: Angels of Death from 1996. So glad I didn’t throw this out during my wilderness years.

I suppose I should have expected such things when they didn’t bother to update Dante when the new Blood Angels book came out a few months ago.

That’s pretty much all I could get out of a single still image, have I missed anything?

Age of Sigmar – first sightings

Looks like my local GW, sorry Warhammer shop is gearing up for the launch of the next version of Warhammer Fantasy Battle*.

*Yes, yes, I know it might be a one off boxed game and even if it is technically the 9th edition of WFB, it might be called something else. But it’s definitely the start of something…

White Dwarf Subscriptions to Return?

04/21/2015 Leave a comment

This evening on my way home from work I popped into my local GW to pick up the latest issue of White Dwarf.

As the shop was about to close for the day and all the Normals were out enjoying the sunny early evening I stayed for a few minutes chatting to the store manager. He told me that he’d heard that a subscription service for the weekly magazine could be appearing very soon.

Again, take this with the traditional Plastic Thunderhawk full of salt but if anyone is likely to have wind of these things then it’s GW’s Black Shirts.

Warlord Titan Incoming?

Could it be that Forge World have finally made the model we’ve longed for all this time?  The hints are certainly there, check out the new trailer for the new Horus Heresy book, Tempest.

Bretonnian Army Book ‘no longer available’

Well, well, well. I’ve been have a wee poke about the new GW website and look what I found, or didn’t find to be more accurate.

The tubes have been aflutter about the possibility of a Wood Elf release in May, this could still well happen however their book is still available.

What does this mean? Probably nothing. The defeatist in me wonders is this truly is the end of our loveable gallic nobles as we currently know them.

I think there’s more than enough room in the Old World for them but the Design Studio has a big task on their hands to bring them back up to the standard of the other armies. Maybe we’ll see a Dark Eldar like resurgence, I really hope so.

Hidden in Plain Sight 2: Plastic Valhallans on the way?

Considering some of the colourful feedback I received last time, it is with some trepidation that I again ruminate over an image in the latest White Dwarf.

This photo appears on page 22 of issue 10, look at the writing on the turret’s shield.

Could some plastic Valhallan infantry kits be gracing us before too long?

Hidden In Plain Sight? – Potential Plastic Vendetta Kit

03/15/2014 2 comments

GW has been increasingly putting subtle hints about future releases in their publications for some time now. Recent(ish) examples being the Wall of Martyrs defence lines in the Chaos Space Marine Codex and the Astra Militarum Tauros in the Tyranid Codex.

Following this, in this week’s White Dwarf we have these pictures.

Now this could be the current Forge World Vendetta upgrade kit for the existing Imperial Guard Valkyrie kit however if I recall, there was a rumour a while ago suggesting that the Vendetta option would be included in a re-released Valkyrie kit which would accompany the Astra Militarum Codex.

In any case, we’ll find out soon enough.

Astra Militarum Leaks – Ogryns, Bullgryns and a Hydra

The internet has been abuzz with some pictures of the forthcoming Astra Militarum (eventually I’ll get used to the name) new dual plastic kit that finally brings Ogryns back into the game without the need for one to take out a second mortgage. They can also be built as a more heavily armoured Bullgryn variant.

The photos appear to be from a forthcoming Warhammer Visions edition, I suspect the May one. Here they are.

Also appearing is the first ever fully plastic Hydra Flak Tank. As an unapologetic Tread Head I’ll certainly be getting a few of these babies!

Imperial Knights Codex Cover Spotted

02/25/2014 Leave a comment

Looks like the cover for the highly anticipated Imperial Knights codex has started to make the rounds.

20140225-214137.jpg

Assuming that this is legitimate it raises a number of interesting possibilities. It’s £5 less than a standard codex so we have to assume that it’ll be a slighter affair, but given that there’re no sign of additional knight-related kits in the rumour mill it remains to be seen just what else they can put into this book to make it worth a quarter of a ton. New missions maybe?

In any case, we’ll find out soon enough.

Multi-Part Plastic Hellbrutes Spotted?

This evening I came across these pictures on the internet. Remember these are unconfirmed so the usual rumour provisos apply.

Are these legit? Well they certainly look so, and the publication appears to be a forthcoming issue of Warhammer Visions.

I’m a massive Dreadnought Whore so I’ll definitely getting some to add to my kit bashed Hellbrute two Dark Vengeance minis.
