The Shambling Horde 2: Shamble Harder
Long-suffering readers (hi, you two!) may remember that as part of my Fifty Day Nurgle Challenge back in 2018, I managed to paint up forty Poxwalkers. Since then I acquired three more sprues from Trenchmate Tim from his Conquest sub and over the past week I’ve slapped some paint on.
If you add in the six I painted back in 2017, that gives me enough for three full squads with four models to spare. More than enough to make Grandfather pleased!
I’ll probably revist them at some point down the line, I love the idea of fielding over one hundred of these chaps 🙂
Chaos Space Marine Helbrute
As many hobbyists, I’m using this time to catch up on some projects that have been lingering in my Drawer of Shame. First up was the monopose Helbrute from the 6th edition Dark Vengeance set.
I’ve been wanting to paint this since it was first unveiled back in 2012 (simpler times etc) and it’s been sitting on-sprue in my limited edition Dark Vengeance box since then!
I also wanted to get this chap done as I’ve been neglecting my Chaos Marine renegade chapter The Heralds of Desolation, since 8th dropped and I started building up my Death Guard. Plus, I’ve two sets of the Chaos sprues from the Shadowspear set that I want to paint sooner rather than later and they’ll be joining my Heralds so I wanted to get some practice in before commencing that project.
I’m not sure what to finish next, I have some Plague Marines basecoated as well as a Catacomb Command Barge, and a nearly-finished Ambot all staring at me from the corner of my desk.
Maybe I’ll start something new?
Sassy Nurgling (and friend)
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Wish I could say that my absence was down to nothing but an ongoing cavalcade of awesomeness but I’d be a bigger liar than usual. Truth is, I’ve been dealing with a lot at work as well as some pretty ugly mental health issues that have escaped their medicated cage and run riot through my skull.
Fortunately, things are getting better inside my noggin (less said about work the better, but it’s manageable thanks to my wonderful team and other colleagues) and as such for the first time this year, nay, this decade I’ve actually finished a model!
These chaps have been sitting undercoated on my desk for months and it felt so very good to finally do them justice.
They’re not up to my usual mediocre standard, however given the gap since the last time I picked up a brush, I’m very happy with the result 🙂
Noxious Blightbringer
This is the third and final unit that I completed in time for last Friday’s game. I’m particularly pleased with this one as I only realised on the Wednesday evening before the game that I was significanly under the points limit and try as I might I could not find any realistic way of closing the gap.
In despiration I resolved to get this chap ready in time. It was touch and go, but I managed to build and paint him in less than a day.
Now, back to the Necrons!
Maybe 😉
Myphitic Blight-haulers
Following on from yesterday’s post, here’s the second unit I managed to compete.
Some of you may remember that in my Fifty Day Nurgle Challenge from last year, I painted up my first Myphitic Blight-hauler, now finally I have completed the squad 🙂
And, of course, a family photo!
Please come back tomorrow for the thrid and final unit I managed to finish!
Plagueburst Crawler
Okay, okay, I know this is not a Necron unit – but I have a really good excuse!
Last Friday I had arranged a game with my mate Bruce (of Games and Theory), who happens to be the husband of one of my childhood friends (small world etc…). Given that there was no way I’d be able to get my Necron force ready in time, I decided to park my shiny chaps and return to my… less-shiny chaps and get a few more units ready.
I had a long-overdue week off work and with my wife’s permission, I was able to devote the first three and a half days to getting this and a couple more units ready.
I’ll post up the other units over the next couple of days, and if I can make sense of the photos from the game, maybe some kind of battle report.
Fifty Day Nurgle Challenge – Day 50: DONE!!!!!
I really can’t believe it, not only have I finished my army in time for Saturday’s tournament, I actually finished within the fifty days I arbritrarily set for the task!
Today I finished my Lord of Contagion.
I actually did it! I’m still in shock. 🙂
Fifty Day Nurgle Challenge – Day 49: A Spell is Cast
Yes, this should have gone up yesterday but it’s only 17 or so minutes late so screw you!
Anyway, I managed to finish the Malignant Plaguecaster today (yesterday, whatever) so that leaves me with the Lord of Contageon to finish off tomorrow. Plus I have an extra day if I need it since the tournament’s on Saturday.
Fifty Day Nurgle Challenge – Day 48: The Little Plague Engines That Could
Aren’t they so sweet?
This is my second Bloat-Drone and first Myphitic Blight-Hauler. I loved painting these however I found the ‘easy build’ hauler a bit of a chore to put together. I ended up snipping off the majority of the tabs in order to get the bits to line up.
Anyway, it’s a lesson learned for the next two.
I may be feeling the effects of this challenge but I’m almost done. Two* days left and only two models to do and both are getting close to completion.
*There are actually three days until the tournament, but I prefer round numbered challenges. Not that I need the extra day, honest….
Fifty Day Nurgle Challenge – Day 45: The Plague Surgeon
The doctor will see you now…
I loved painting this model. Really need an excuse to do another one 🙂
