Nurgle Contemptor Dreadnought – WIP 1

07/21/2016 Leave a comment

Keeping with my Nurgle force, I decided to adapt the Betrayal at Calth plastic Contemptor for the service of all things icky.

The build itself was fairly easy as the kit is once of the simplest to put together.

The only real difficulties, if you could call them that, we’re shaving off the Corpse-God’s iconography and cutting out the sculpted helmet so that I could put in the Aspiring Champion’s one from the Chaos Marine box.

The icon on the chest is a wet green stuff (two parts yellow to one part blue) cast of the Nurgle icon from the Chaos Vehicle sprue. I elected to use a sculp as wet green stuff is very pliable, unlike the plastic original. I used BluStuff to make the cast, if you haven’t tried it yet I strongly suggest you do, it’s awesome!

I dotted some green stuff boils here and there so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to start painting as I’m sure it’ll take some time to properly cute in this accursed heat.

Astra Militarum Wyvern – WIP 1

Can’t believe it’s been almost two years since I last added to my trusty old Imperial Guard!

I picked this up a while back and have been looking forward to building it throughout my recent foray into She Who Thirsts

This was a fantastic model to build, as I have more Chimeras (Chimerae?) than is decent I’ve not encountered the updated kit before but it was so much easier to assemble! It’s also a touch thinner which will certainly help storage-wise when I build my third platoon later this year.

As you can see from the picture, I’ll be painting it in sub-assemblies but I think it should be a fairly straightforward job. This’ll be fun 🙂

Chaos Space Marine Raptors – WIP 1, Or: My Weird Painting Habit

This evening I started painting my ten man Raptor squad, I unleashed my spraying stick and got the lads under and basecoated.

Once the second coat of Macragge Blue had dried I selected one of the regular models that were armed with a bolt pistol and chainsword and got started.

As you can see I’m making decent progress, but it’s also clear that I’m not attempting to production line these models.

Why? Because whenever I start a new unit, even a type that I’ve painted before, I always paint one to completion before bulk painting  the rest.

I’ve no idea why I do this, but it’s proving to be a hard habit to break!

On a wing and an unholy prayer

Ok, so I got a bit distracted but after undercoating my Dark Angel Command Squad I realised that I was getting really tired painting green and cream.

Then I remembered that I have a game against Trenchmate Tim fast approaching. Hence, this:

I’ve had these boxes taking up space in my Cupboard of Shame for far too long. It’s time my Heralds of Desolation get some reinforcements!

Back to Civilisation*

We got back last week from a freaking fantastic time in the US visiting my wife’s family and now that the jetlag’s cleared (I swear it didn’t use to affect me so in my twenties) I’ve got in an hour or so of painting this evening.

Ok, it’s not much, but at least this small part of my Ravenwing force is done 🙂
*Well, Scotland.

Need for Speed

In a little under fourteen and a half hours I’ll be on a long-overdue holiday and I fully intend to make the most of it.  While my Beloved and I will be spending some time away from Castle Ferguson, I think I’ll still have plenty time to get a bit of a wiggle on concerning some very delayed projects.

To this end, tonight I assembled and undercoated these chaps.

I’ve been meaning to add to my Ravenwing’s sole Landspeeder for some time and the coming break is just the opportunity I need.

I wonder what else I’ll get done 🙂

Dark Angels Company Master – WIP

I have too many Space Marine Captains. There, I’ve said it. Problem is, they’re either all on-sprue or sitting in the Drawer of Shame waiting to be painted.

So, what do I do? I build another and bump him to the head of the queue!

As you can see, I’m using the Space Marine Commander kit with the recently released Dark Angels Upgrade set. I thought about modding it further but I have to say it’s a good look as is.

Hope to get it finished by the end of the week, real life permitting as always…

Chaos Land Raider – WIP 4

It’s almost done!

Chaos Land Raider WIP

This evening I attached the sponsons and gunner and popped the twin-linked heavy bolter in place to see how it looked, and I like it.  There’s still some tidying needed, especially around the trophy spikes and chains but really all that’s left is to weather the beast.

However, this leaves me with an important question: what in the names of the fell gods do I name this mighty vehicle?

Chaos Land Raider – WIP 3

Things have been a bit quiet of late at Ferguson Towers, mainly down to properly insane amounts of work leaving me too tired to pick up a paint brush.  Fortunately today I’ve managed to barricade myself in my Hobby Lair and used the time to get stuck in to my Chaos Land Raider.

Land Raider WIP

As you can see, the Lascannons, Heavy Bolters and gunner are as finished as they can be, as well as the interior, so now I’ve made a start on the outside of the hull.  I had wanted to get some more done but after drybrushing three layers onto the hull I just couldn’t take any more!

If past experience is anything to go by, the job’s well over half way done so I hope to have a finished model some time this week.  I have some new Dark Angels on order along with the Codex so I’m sure I’ll be able to keep myself occupied 😉

The inside’s detailed and the hull’s complete. Not bad for a couple of days.

i decided to remove as much Imperial iconography as practical and replace with more appropriate material.

The sponsons will be painted before being attached.

I kitbashed a combiplasma for the pintle weapon. The gunner’s also not glued in place so it can be painted more easily.

I’m taking a day off tomorrow for my birthday but the plan’s to have this finished by the end of my holiday.
