He’s done!

I loved  working on this model, it’s only the second FW model I’ve completed but I think i’m hooked!

Plus, this means that for the first time ever I have a full sixteen player Blood Bowl team ready for action 🙂

Blood Bowl Six Nations – Les Escargots Putrides (France/Nurgle)

03/01/2019 Leave a comment

Towards the end of last year I was invited to participate in a Rugby Six Nations themed Blood Bowl tournament.  For those of you who don’t know what the Six Nations are, it’s an annual Rugby Union competition featuring England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales that’s played in February and March.

It was determined that the following BB races would represent the teams:

  • England – Skaven
  • France – Chaos
  • Ireland – Orcs
  • Italy – Humans
  • Scotland – Dwarves
  • Wales – Elves

I drew France so I had the option of a basic Chaos or a Nurgle team and given my recent hobby track record, I went for the latter 🙂

And with one notable exception* here they are!

Nurgle 01 - Whole Team

Nurgle 04 - Pestigors Front

Nurgle 05 - Pestigors Side

Nurgle 06 - Pestigors Rear

Nurgle 02 - Bloaters Front

Nurgle 03 - Bloaters Rear

Nurgle 07- Rotters Front

Nurgle 08 - Rotters Side

Nurgle 09 - Rotters Rear

Nurgle 10 - Game Aids and Balls

*I’m sure you’ve noticed the absence of player number one.  I’m saving that for a Rotspawn, assuming that FW ever release it 😦

The tournament’s currently underway, the first two games have been played and the next are scheduled for the middle of March.  I’ll do a write-up once its over.

I also hope to persuade the other participants to share their teams here, watch this space!

Goblin Referee

Always a sucker for ‘limited edition’ models, I had to pick up Forge World’s Blood Bowl Refereee set.  I managed to get this little guy done in an afternoon (it shows), but I’m fairly happy with the job.

Goblin Referee - Front

Goblin Referee - Back

As you can no doubt see, my freehand sucks.  I hope to get better and when (if) so, I’ll be sorely tempted to strip and repaint this.  However, there’s something a little charming about the crappy job I did, it’s as if the Gobbo took a shirt and decided to paint the lines on himself before the game 🙂

Orc Lineman

This is only second greenskin model I’ve ever painted to completion and I have to say I enjoyed it.

I decided to paint up my Orc team in the colours of the Orcland Raiders because puns and also because I’ve never painted a yellow colour scheme. I think I’ve done alright, my aim is to get the linemen and maybe a specialist or two done by the end of the weekend.

The Nuln Oilers

It’s been five months less a day since my last post, the longest gap in this pokey little blog’s inglorious existance.  Why the unwanted hiatus?  There were a number of reasons that not just stopped me posting, but also stopped me painting and gaming.

First of all work got very busy, trying to launch what might be our area’s last fund using European Union money (for now anyway) took a hell of a lot of effort and very long days not just in the office but travelling round the country.  Secondly, our younger cat Hervör was diagnosed with terminal cancer.  She passed away last month which meant that anything hobby-related was understandibly far from my mind 😦  Finally, our bloody bath’s waste water pipe sprung a leak and wrecked both the bathroom and our kitchen below.  As I’m writing this I can hear the builders rebuilding our bathroom and hopefully things will be back to normal by the end of the week.

Things finally calmed down about a month ago and I soon found myself itching to dust off my painting station and get started on something, anything.  As I’d decided on the colour scheme for my Human Blood Bowl team I thought it best to finish something.  So without further ado, I’m proud to present The Nuln Oilers!

Now, onto some Tzeentch deamons before I return to my Orc and Skaven teams…

My first Blood Bowl Miniature in 21 Years!

It’s been a while hasn’t it, read readers?

Truth is I’ve been absolutely rammed at work and long days coupled with the stresses associated with the project I’m currently working on mean that I was in close to zero mood to do anything other than collapse in front of a DVD box set.

Anyhoo, the long-overdue revival of Blood Bowl has got me well and truly back into the swing of things.  Thus far I’ve built up the two starter teams of Humans and Orcs, as well as the two Forge World Referees.  Not only that, but I’ve an on-sprue Skaven team to do as well!

Today I painted up the first model for my human team.  It’s not perfect and I can see a couple of areas to touch up in the photo, but here he is.

first-lineman

I still don’t know what to call my new team.   My old human team from ’93 was the Averland Angels, but I’d like something punchier this time round.  Tomorrow I’m going to pour over the fluff in my old Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th edition rule book and see what I can see.

It’s so very good to be back 🙂

GW’s schedule through to January 2014

07/02/2013 1 comment

The usually reliable Faeit 212 has posted a list of what to expect over the next seven or so months from our favourite Nottingham overlords.  Here’s the shimmy, just remember your sackful of salt:

August: Lizardmen, Farsight supplement
September: Mystery Box (or Blood Bowl as it’s traditionally called / hoped)
October: Space Marines, White Scars Supplement, possibly another Marine Supplement
November: Dark Elves and another supplement, probably Marines and probably Ultramarines
December: Hobbit
January: Dwarves, and something else.

You can read the full post here.

Aside from my obvious excitement about the possibility of a 21st century iteration of Blood Bowl, what’s really getting my juices flowing is the prospect of some new Dark Elf kits.  Before the release of the current Dark Eldar codex I used parts from Black Ark Corsairs to add variety to my Kabalite Warriors and Wyches, the thought of mixing some new kits with the current Dark Eldar range pleases my inner-Haemonculus immensely.

The possibility of something else in January is intriguing,  there have been wildly speculative rumours for some time that the Imperial Guard might get a sixth edition makeover however I really don’t think they need one as yet, maybe in a year or so. The other 40K option would be a revisit of the derided Tyranid codex and given that these poor extra-galactic critters can’t even ally with anyone now I think they should be shown some love sooner rather than later.

However if you look out with 40K you’ll see an army begging for an update, the noble Bretonnians.  The truth is that a massed heavy cavalry charge just doesn’t work as well as it should in the 8th edition, especially coupled with the fact that every army thus far has received at least one decent large kit.  I’d dearly love to give my pluckly little gallic knights some much-needed oomph in the reasonably near future, especially as I still have a campaign to win 😉

GW 2013 Master Release Schedule

04/02/2013 Leave a comment

Bell of Lost Souls have published what claims to be GW’s release plan for this year, here it is:

January: Warriors of Chaos
February: Dark Angels
March: Chaos Daemons / Daemons of Chaos
April: Tau Empire
May: High Elves
June: Eldar
July: Apocalypse
August: Lizardmen
September: Blood Bowl
October: Space Marines
November: Dwarves
December: Hobbit
January: Tyranids

You can read the original post here.

I don’t know about you but I think that they’ll still bump the marines up the schedule and let’s not forget that the Mystery Box may still not be Blood Bowl, but for the life of me I can’t think what else it could be.

Unless of course, they go mad and re-release Dark Future…

Bowled Over

I’m sorry, couldn’t resist.  But if this is right then I’m one very happy gamer for today I noticed that rumours have resurfaced that a new iteration of Blood Bowl may well be GW’s 2013 Mystery Box.

This is potentially awesome news, especially if it comes with the hinted CAD-designed plastic pitch.  My one reservation is that it will be a limited release along the lines of Dreadfleet and Space Hulk, but there’s no way GW will be that stupid…
